Evaluation of AQM schemes to support Low Latency in the Internet
نویسنده
چکیده
Many modern applications require low latency transmission in the Internet which is not explicitly supported today. Most networks are optimized for high throughput and low loss. This increases latency due to high queuing delays. Only very few applications actually need both high thorughput and low latency, therefore the network could offer a new parallel Internet service that provides lower latency compared to the best effort service that is usually offered today. This can be achieved by separating flows into different queues at the bottleneck link that operate either independently or could be coupled as propoded by the DualQ Coupled AQM for Low Latency, Low Loss and Scalable Throughput (L4S) [1].

A Comparative Study of Active Queue Management Schemes
Active Queue Management (AQM) schemes are a class of queueing algorithms designed to surmount some of the shortcomings of classic Drop-Tail queues in best-effort networks. Much recent work has focused on improving AQM performance through alternate approaches: in excess of 50 schemes have been proposed since 1999 alone. This study details a simulationbased evaluation and comparison of a subset o...
متن کاملAn Adaptive Neuron AQM for a Stable Internet
Recognizing that Internet congestion control is a complex nonlinear system, we propose here to use an intelligent controller to improve its stability and performance. In particular, we propose here a new, powerful, easy-to-configure and robust active queue management (AQM) scheme called adaptive neuron AQM (AN-AQM). We present extensive simulation results for AN-AQM, over a wide range of networ...
متن کاملThe Pennsylvania State University The Graduate School College of Engineering NETWORK QUEUE MANAGEMENT AND CONGESTION CONTROL IN INTERNET AND WIRELESS NETWORKS
Rapid development of telecommunication technologies and the ever growing network users demands have made network congestion a prominent problem in today’s Internet. Congestion not only brings significant performance degradation to the network, but also hurts the Quality-of-Service (QoS) that the users receive and even raises up some security concerns such as Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. The...
متن کاملGREEN: an active queue management algorithm for a self managed Internet
In this paper we introduce a new active queue management (AQM) algorithm called GREEN. GREEN provides high link utilization whilst maintaining low delay and packet loss. GREEN enables low latency interactive applications such as telephony and network games. GREEN is shown to outperform the current AQM algorithms. Certain performance problems with current AQMs are discussed.
متن کاملThe Use of Data Envelopment Analysis in the Design of Internet Networks to Ensure the Quality of Service
Choosing a superior Internet network by users or providing a desirable Internet network by ISPs is always one of the important decision issues in this area. Choosing a unique optimal network from among the best networks is still a big challenge. The purpose of this paper is to use the data envelopment analysis (DEA) decision-making technique to evaluate the existing Internet networks in order t...
